Pak is a U.S. correspondent at Nikkei Asia, where he covers business, finance and cross-border trade between the United States and Asia.
His reporting focuses on U.S.-China investment, corporate strategy and trade. He frequently reports on major business and financial developments, including regulatory scrutiny of small-cap Chinese IPOs in the United States and how Chinese companies respond to the shifting political and business landscape. He also examines how Asian firms navigate and capitalize on U.S. strategic and industrial policy.
Previously based in Hong Kong, Pak reported on Chinese and Hong Kong politics and business during a significant period of political turmoil. His reporting has earned several industry awards including a SABEW Best in Business award for detailing how Chinese companies manuever around U.S. trade barriers, and a Society of Publishers in Asia award for a series on Asia’s hydropolitics.
Before joining Nikkei Asia, he worked at Reuters and Agence France Presse based in mainland China covering politics, human rights and other social issues. His work on Hong Kong’s democracy movement, and China’s systemic campaign against Uyghurs has also earned high praise from the Society of Publishers in Asia.
Pak graduated from the University of Queensland and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.
