Pak is a U.S. correspondent at Nikkei Asia, where he covers a wide range of cross-border topics between the United States and Asia.

His reporting centres on U.S.-China investment and trade, with a particular focus on how Chinese companies navigate the shifting political and business landscape in the U.S.. He also writes about the consequential relationship between the world’s two largest economies and the ripple effects on the Chinese diaspora in the United States.

Previously based in Hong Kong, Pak reported on Chinese and Hong Kong politics and business during a significant period of change, as Beijing tightened its grip on the Asian financial hub. In 2023, he was part of a team that won a SOPA award for a series of on Asia’s hydropolitics.

Before joining Nikkei Asia, he worked at Reuters and Agence France Presse based in mainland China covering politics, human rights and other social issues. His work on Beijing’s crackdown on Hong Kong’s democracy movement, and China’s systemic campaign against Uyghurs has earned high praise from the Society of Publishers in Asia.

Pak graduated from the University of Queensland and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.
