Pak is a U.S. correspondent at Nikkei Asia, where he covers a wide range of cross-border topics between the U.S. and Asia.
His reporting focuses on U.S.-China investment and trade, and how Chinese companies navigate the everchanging business landscape in the United States. He has also written about the geopolitical relationship between the world’s two largest economies and the impact it has on the Chinese diaspora in the United States.
He was previously based in Hong Kong, where he covered politics and how companies navigated a new business environment after Beijing tightened its grip on the Asian financial hub. In 2023, he worked on a series of stories on the hydropolitics of Asia, which won a SOPA award.
Prior to Nikkei Asia, Pak worked at Reuters and Agence France Presse based in mainland China covering politics, human rights and other social issues. His work on Beijing’s crackdown on Hong Kong’s democracy movement, and China’s systemic campaign against Uyghurs has earned high praise from the Society of
Pak graduated from the University of Queensland and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.
